FOOT CARE NURSE—CONTRACT POSITION
JANUARY TO MARCH 2022

Long Plain Health Services is seeking a Foot Care Nurse—3 days/month to March 31, 2022.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of the Health Director, the Foot Care Nurse facilitates foot care nursing services to on-reserve community members and community members who reside in long-term care facilities in Portage la Prairie.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • Will complete initial client assessments and bi-annual update assessments on all clients
  • Will provide routine foot care within their scope of practice
  • Will assist the Aboriginal Diabetes Integration Worker with one-to-one client education
  • Will refer clients to other health care professionals for further clinical evaluation, especially high risk clients such as those with diabetes
  • Will evaluate the effectiveness of care and treatment foot care services to ensure the program is meeting clinical targets
  • will be guided by the Diabetes Integration Project: Basic Foot Care standards, Policies & Procedures Manual, Revision 2017, “A Holistic Approach to First Nations Foot Care”
  • In addition to providing basic foot care, the Foot Care Nurse ensures/implements the Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines

REPORTS:

  • Prepares a Community Visit Summary after each community visit
  • Prepares reports to include statistics on program participants, activities, issues and challenges, and recommendations for improvement
  • Other reports as requested by the Health Director

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a minimum of two years of community health nursing experience
  • Must be registerd and in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses/Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba or the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba
  • Must have Foot Care Certification

SKILLS:

  • Must be professional and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Must possess effective verbal/written communication skills
  • Must possess computer literacy skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Functions within the guidelines for the Code of Ethics and Standards of Nursing Practice as a direct care service provider
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

OTHER:

  • Must have a valid Manitoba Driver’s License
  • Must be subject to Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse, Vulnerable Sector Registry Check
  • Knowledge of First Nation culture, customs, values and traditions
  • Must be responsive to extensive travel requirements as necessary
  • Must be able to travel alone as required
  • Other duties as assigned
