Today, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) announced that Jeremy Anthony Michael Skibicki, whom was arrested on May 18, 2022 for the murder of 24 year old Rebecca Contois was found to be responsible for the murders of Long Plain members Morgan Beatrice Harris (39 years old) and Marcedes Myran (26 years old).

Long Plain Chief & Council and the families have been in contact with WPS following their investigation and we ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy at this time. The WPS investigation into the murders are still on-going and information is still limited.

“As a community, we’re devastated by the news we heard today by WPS. The loss of three women and one unidentified person is a sadness many are feeling. We must come together as communities to protect and support our Indigenous women & men.” – Chief Kyra Wilson

Long Plain First Nation will have resources in place for community members as well as a sacred fire will be lit.

We thank the WPS for their continued commitment to the investigation and thank the community for your kindness and prayers for all the families involved. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the other families and communities involved in this tragedy.
