Long Plain First Nation is seeking Two (2) full-time On Reserve Child Development Workers.

Under the direction of the Jordan’s Principle Program Manager, the Child Development (CDW) is responsible for providing support to families with children living with special needs and to help enhance the child’s life and facilitate health care interventions and developmental stimulation without denial, delay, or disruption.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides personal care services based on care plans and program policies.
  • Assists in physical, social, emotional, and daily life skills development based on the seven domains of early childhood development.
  • Helps plan develop, implement, and evaluate recreational, social and/or education activities for children and their families.
  • Families identified through a screening process will receive in-home visits which focus on parent child attachment, challenges facing the family strengths and needs, current connection to community resources, personal and professional support.
  • Develop resources that foster the creation of a good learning environment for parents and children.
  • Incorporates knowledge of behavioral sciences with teachings and learning principles when carrying out educational activities and uses strategies appropriate to the relevant target group.
  • Develop strategies that ensure all children are fulfilling their potential and take action to improve that lives of children and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-Secondary education in a related social services stream such as early childhood development/education or disabilities/special needs. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working in an early childhood environment with the focus on children/families with disabilities/special needs.
  • Knowledge of the Jordan’s Principle initiative.
  • Experience assessing, developing, and implementing an early intervention care plan using developmental/curriculum-based tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate collaboration, encouragement, and a patience approach.
  • Knowledge of disabilities/medical needs, inclusion, early child development stages and basic treatment, techniques, and best practices in early intervention.
  • Experience working within First Nations communities.
  • Knowledge of First Nation culture, history, and issues.
  • Demonstrated superior written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member, demonstrating emotional stability and objectivity when dealing with challenging/changing work environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions and fluent in a First Nation language would be an asset.
  • Experience utilizing computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and database systems.
  • Adhere to LPFN policies and procedures with specific attention to attendance and professional ethics.
  • Be able to work flexible or irregular work schedule including afterhours and weekends, as needed.
  • Must be able to travel as requested, must have a reliable means of transportation.
  • Must have a clear and current Criminal Record Check, Valid CPR and First Aide Certificate.
