The kick off to the event was held on Good Friday at Stride Place, as the opening ceremonies were held on the ice.
Chief of Long Plain First Nation Dennis Meeches says they wanted to make sure they started things off right.
“Well, I think it’s an acknowledgment of Indigenous hockey and all of the events that we’re promoting this weekend,” says Meeches. “It’s usually just to make sure that the tournament goes off in a smooth way, in an honourable way.”
Chief Dennis Meeches shared there were no significant problems, saying the weekend went off without a hitch.
Meeches adds it was a great weekend with a lot of excitement. He reveals throughout the four-day event, nearly 3000 people came through Stride Place, adding though many were from Manitoba people came from neighboring provinces.
He notes, the City of Portage la Prairie was a great host and is a great place to hold a major hockey event such as All Nations. Overall Meeches is pleased with how the weekend played out, noting it was a weekend full of great hockey and other events.
