Long Plain First Nation is seeking an Economic Development Officer – Term Position.
The Economic Development Officer will be responsible for identifying and implementing economic development projects and opportunities in Long Plain First Nation. The incumbent will research areas of potential economic growth, liaise with external agencies and prepare business plans for approval by the Long Plain Chief and Council.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Identifies, plans and organizes business and employment related projects.
• Drafts business plans, budgets, reports, memorandums and letters for approval by Chief and Council.
• Research areas of potential economic growth and make recommendations to Chief and Council.
• Liaises with community members, external agencies and suppliers.
• Establishes and maintains economic development files and statistical information.
• Assists with identification and development of business opportunities and business plans for the band members by:
• Meeting with Council/individuals/groups to discuss and evaluate ideas.
• Analyze funding requests and make recommendations based on program policies.
• Assist with the preparation of business plans for submission to funding agencies.
• Liaison with representatives of funding agencies on behalf of clients.
• Collaborate with Tribal ADC projects, as required
• Any other duties as assigned by appropriate LPFN authorities
Qualifications and Requirements:
• must possess effective oral and written communication skills
• strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• must have the ability to handle high stress situations under tight deadlines
• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel spreadsheets and Internet is required.
• Basic mathematical ability with attention to detail and highly effective problem-solving skills will
• must be able to research areas of potential economic growth
• communicate with external agencies
• prepare business plans for approval by the Long Plain Chief and Council.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The Economic Development Officer will possess a High School Diploma, Post Secondary training in Economic Development and two (2) years’ experience on the job or a combination of education and related work experience.
