We have limited information at this time but are aware that the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is conducting an investigation into Jeremy’s death. We have taken action to remove the officers on duty at the time of the incident from the Community.

We take this matter very seriously and demand information and answers on what occurred on Saturday, July 9, 2022, and regarding Jeremy’s death while in police custody.

We will do everything in our power to ensure that all information is disclosed, properly considered and that justice is done.

Long Plain First Nation Leadership is calling on the IIU to work with Leadership to include a Long Plain Community member in the IIU investigative process. This is critical to ensure transparency and for the Community’s healing.

Once more information becomes available, action will be taken accordingly.
