TREATY NO.1 TERRITORY, WINNIPEG, MB, October 5, 2022 – Ode Akiing also referred to as the Wyndham Garden Winnipeg Airport Hotel, located on Long Plain First Nation, will be celebrating the Grand Opening event October 5, 2022 at 460 Madison St., Winnipeg, MB R3J 1J1.
Long Plain First Nation pursued this economic development venture, dedicated to providing economic stability to Long Plain First Nation members. The Nation worked tirelessly to exercise autonomy and self-determination by creating a revenue generating project for all involved. Odé Akiing has created jobs and economic security for tribal members. In addition, it will provide employment, services, and will contribute to the greater community of Winnipeg.
The hotel had a successful soft opening date of August 17, 2022 and continues to serve the community. The soft opening allowed for guests to begin utilizing the services while Odé Akiing continued to deal with global supply chain issues. It is with great pride that we were able to set a Grand Opening date for Odé Akiing – Wyndham Garden Winnipeg Airport Hotel.
The celebratory event will open with a Pipe Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. and the Opening Ceremony to start by 10:00 a.m. The Opening Ceremony will be emceed by former Chief Dennis Meeches and statements made by Chief Kyra Wilson along with many other dignitaries. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m., VIP presentations at 11:30 a.m., and the Closing Ceremony at 12:00 p.m.
Wyndham Garden Winnipeg Airport is a full-service hotel located on the first Urban Reserve in Winnipeg; the Long Plain Madison Reserve located on Treaty 1 territory. The hotel is owned by Long Plain First Nation and will be operated by Winnipeg based Sparrow Hotels. The hotel features 132 guest rooms, pool, waterslide, fitness centre, 5800 square feet of flexible meeting space, dining room, café, and 230 parking stalls.
