This Notice is to inform Long Plain Members that violence and illegal activities on Long Plain will not be tolerated and Chief and Council are exploring options in response to the increased violence and illegal activities in the Community. The safety and well-being of Long Plain First Nation Members is of paramount priority for the Tribal Government.

The Chief and Council fully acknowledge the harms that illegal activities associated with drug use, trafficking/dealing of drugs, use of illegal firearms, and careless misuse offire arms are having on Long Plain First Nation. Chief and Council are aware of certain individuals who are reasonably suspected of participating in illegal activities on Long Plain First Nation lands.

With this notice, we are giving every household the opportunity to cease any illegal activities. Please see the below information that informs the next steps we will take as a community, if individuals and/or households continue to participate in any illegal activities:

  • A persons(s) suspected of dealing/trafficking illegal drugs/controlled substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, C. 1996, c. 19 and other medication for which a lawful prescription is not held, that they must cease all illegal activities on Long Plain First Nation lands or face consequences which may include, but is not limited to, loss of housing on Reserve (pursuant to Long Plain First Nation Tenancy Agreement subsection 5.l(g)) or banishment/trespassing;
  • A person(s} suspected of illegal possession of or careless use of a firearm that they must cease all illegal activities on Long Plain First Nation lands or face consequences which may include, but is not limited to, loss of housing on Reserve (pursuant to Long Plain First Nation Tenancy Agreement subsection 5.l(g)) or banishment/trespassing; and
  • Long Plain First Nation is currently developing laws/bylaws to enforce offenses and penalties against any person who is suspected of or participating in illegal activities on Long Plain First Nation, whether or not they are a

Chief and Council derives its authority to protect the Long Plain Citizenship under the Long Plain First Notion Constitution (the “Constitution”) and must exercise its authority to preserve the health, safety, well-being and general welfare of the Community and the inherent, Treaty and Aboriginal rights and freedoms of Long Plain Members pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution.
