Location: Long Plain First Nation (Serving on-reserve and off-reserve clients)

About Jordan’s Principle

Jordan’s Principle is a child-first initiative ensuring that First Nations children have equitable access to all government-funded public services. It was created in memory of Jordan River Anderson from Norway House Cree Nation and is rooted in the principle that no child should experience delays or denials in accessing essential services because of jurisdictional disputes. This program supports the health, well-being, and dignity of First Nations children and families by removing barriers to care.

About the Role

Long Plain First Nation is seeking a dedicated Medical Driver to join our Jordan’s Principle team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring First Nations children and families have equitable access to health services. The Medical Driver will provide safe, reliable, and culturally respectful transportation for clients to medical appointments, respite care, and other approved destinations as coordinated by Case Managers.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments, respite care, and other approved locations.
  • Coordinate schedules with Case Managers to meet client needs promptly.
  • Ensure the safety, comfort, and dignity of clients during transport.
  • Maintain a clean, well-functioning vehicle and comply with all safety regulations.
  • Assist clients with mobility needs when required.
  • Complete trip logs and submit reports as directed.
  • Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate cultural sensitivity at all times.
  • Support the Jordan’s Principle mandate by removing barriers and ensuring timely access to services.
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Clear Child Abuse Registry Check
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge of Long Plain First Nation community and surrounding areas.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours (including evenings/weekends if needed).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural competency.

Assets

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Previous experience in medical transportation or client care.
  • Familiarity with Jordan’s Principle and its commitment to equitable access for First Nations children and families.
